In Francesco Mastalia's inspiring black and white photograph, DJ Drez connects with the music of nature, honoring and invoking peace and serenity. The warm tones, subtlety of form, and timeless imagery makes this photograph a classic and will enhance any decor.
Part of a larger series of 108 yogis photographed by Mastalia for his book Yoga: The Secret of Life, each breathtaking photo was captured in the artist's antique lens and large format camera.
The portraits of the Yoga collection were photographed using the wet plate collodion process, a technique developed in the mid-19th century, when the art of photography was in its infancy. Working with a large format wooden camera, an 1870’s brass lens, and portable darkroom, glass plates are hand-coated with a blend of collodion and light sensitive salts to produce one of a kind images. Each step of the process has a life of its own. There are no light meters to guide in exposure. Temperature and humidity play a role, and the UV light sensitivity renders different than what the naked eye can see. With so many factors inherent to its unique characteristics, no two plates are ever alike.
