Happy Birthday to us!!! Nectar Celebrates 10 Years in the Hudson Valley with the Bash of the Decade
This has been a year of many milestones for us- we opened our second store in Rhinebeck this May, launched a shiny new website just last month & are now gearing up for our 10 Year Anniversary. Plus we’re hosting our first ever art installation with the impactful portraiture of local photographer Francesco Mastalia. There's much to celebrate!
We chose to indulge our birthday festivities alongside Francesco’s installation not only because his photography is so very striking, beckoning the mastery of a bygone era with his incredibly detailed large format ambrotypes, but because his values are aligned with ours. Jenny founded Nectar ten years ago with the vision to create a place that evokes a sense of travel and an appreciation for beautiful world craftsmanship, while being mindfully sourced. We truly strive to be much more than a retail store. Beneath the veneer of HOME-GIFTS-ART-TEA, Nectar has passionately promoted a healthy conscious lifestyle, one cup of organic tea and genuine conversation at a time. In the mix of reclaimed wood furnishings, a multitude of locally blended organic teas, and Fair Trade products that transform communities through the programs and individuals they support, Francesco’s extraordinary photographs from his book Organic are the perfect complement, as they too communicate the urgency of our responsibility to be loving stewards of our environment.
In an increasingly commercialized world, Organic focuses its lens on the crucial effort of the organic farmer and chefs committed to supporting them in the Hudson Valley- a mere microcosm that tells of a much larger, global story. Most educated adults have at least some awareness of the well-documented deleterious effects of the large scale farming industries, chemical pesticides, GMOs, and their disastrous impact to the environment and life, fanning out and out. Organic perpetuates this urgent dialogue surrounding the integrity behind our food, how things are grown and animals are raised, and how we impact one another both locally and globally. We couldn’t ask for a better co-conspirator!
Now, let’s talk PARTY! We promise great photographs, riveting dialogue, a colorful cast of characters, divine hors d'oeuvres, drinks, fun, and the unexpected! Francesco will be showcasing his antique large format camera and explaining the technique behind his mid-19thcentury wet plate collodion process. Additionally, 10% of all party sales will be donated to the non-profit Rondout Valley Growers Association, which invigorates the economic health of local family-run farms and their communities. Finally, we’ll have some amazing locally crafted party favors for you all!
Come celebrate 10 years of Nectar with us!
