Happy, Merry, Joy

Brass rings, jeweled earrings, bunnies and more: some of Nectar's favorite Holiday gifts and ornaments

It’s finally time to celebrate snowy, cheery, wintry holiday bliss! Boxes upon boxes arrive everyday with shimmering ornaments and glittering garlands, precious treasures to be gifted, and keepsakes to last through the years. We are busy ordering festive table settings, hand crafted tree-free journals and spice colored jewelery to stock our shelves. Eggnog and cider, Christmas cookies and Bing Crosby- it’s all so exciting!

This year we are mixing dazzling golds and sparkling silvers with matted metal boxes and soft felted critter ornaments. Reclaimed is king at Nectar, so most of our ornaments are handmade around the world from old soda cans, discarded books, worn fabric, and scrap metal. And then there are the gifts! We've compiled our favorite "For Her" and "For Him" items to please any friend or loved one.

Nectar's favorite man gifts for the rough and tumble guy in your life this Holiday season

A majority of the world’s waste is created annually during the holiday season. In fact, household waste in the U.S. increases by more than 25% from Thanksgiving to New Years Day. Everything from food to product packaging, shopping bags, wrapping paper and ribbons tallies up to a whopping weekly addition of 1 million tons of trash that pile up in our landfills. Did you know that if every family reused just two feet of holiday ribbon, the 38,000 miles of ribbon saved could tie a bow around the entire planet?! Shocking but true! We are taking care to be mindful of our impact. We’ve opted out of plastic tree shopping and are avoiding tearing through the forest for our decorative wishes. Instead, fallen birch branches from the recent blizzard have been painted snowy platinum and royal gold to hang our ornaments. Paper scraps have been transformed into festive signs and snowflakes. We’re even using old toilet paper cardboard rolls to make oversized sparkling strings of garland! As it turns out, the organic approach is the simplest and most gorgeous. We hope you can find some inspiration to reduce your holiday footprint, too!
