A Rustic Wildflower Wedding
As featured on Oncewed.com.
When Shellie Pomeroy asked to borrow some furniture & dinnerware for a photoshoot, we were thrilled. The creative genius behind Silk & Willow, Shellie handcrafts ethereal plant-dyed silks and table linens out of her home studio in New Paltz, NY:
"Using plant materials to dye fabric is a tradition that dates back to antiquity. Forging for material and cooking out the color is a gratifying process. I even find joy in the varying smells that now come from my kitchen. Some like a sweet cup of brewed tea, and others, a muddy earthiness that remind me of walking on wet moss barefoot in the woods. An array of sensory responses brought straight to my kitchen!"
Shellie teamed up with international fine art photographer Rebecca Yale to create this delicate and romantic shoot on a rather rainy day in the Hudson Valley. Inspired by bucolic childhood days of playing in the fields and wading by the stream, this shoot organically unfolded as they drew from their natural surroundings. New Paltz, with a rich history steeped in agriculture and studded with well-worn hiking trails, was an ideal site location. Nestled in a field of wild clover and along a rambling river and stream, it was the perfect fit for their creative vision.
The arrangements were a combination of foraged wildflowers along with flowers provided by Beaurust Flower Shop. Silk & Willow arranged hand-dipped beeswax candles specifically made for the shoot and also hand-dyed loose weave cloth for dinner napkins.
Karla, owner of Written Word Calligraphy + Design, used crushed berries as calligraphy ink over natural, handmade paper for the menus and invitations.
The bride wore an Edwardian whitework lawn dress and an embroidered tulle dress by Gossamer Vintage with ribbon sash belts by Silk & Willow.
What a perfect example of an organic farm-to-table Upstate NY wedding. Dreams do come true...
